Many people think of financial market trading as something best left to the experts, a complicated world of interpreting unpredictable patterns in the markets by scrutinizing graphs on trading screens for hours on end, and somehow making profitable trading decisions by using esoteric theories formulated by people with names like Fibonacci, Martingale and Elliott. Traditionally this would sum up the world of technical analysis which is pretty much all of those things.
But in the last few years a new wave of forex trading systems has changed all of that. Today we can say that financial market trading is something best left to the expert advisors. What is an expert advisor? It is an automated trading script installed on the Metatrader forex trading platform, which makes profitable trading decisions and may utilise any or all of the above-mentioned theories, and many more besides, all programmed into an algorithm which executes trades from an everyday PC through an online brokerage account.
The implications for the average investor who knows little or nothing about forex, are huge. Not only are these forex trading systems affordable, available and easily accessible online, they are designed for Metatrader, the most popular trading platform supported by virtually all online forex brokers, and this means that some very serious money has gone into developing profitable and effective trading software for this platform. On the other hand, many people are aware of the existence of "forex robots" as these programs are also known, but their reputation is, in some cases justifiably so, not favorable. Sometimes clever marketing can disguise a cheap, flaky product which is aimed at making a quick sale, but will end up losing the end-user's money in the markets.
So how can the average investor distinguish which are the best expert advisors? Fortunately, there are websites dedicated to providing unbiased reviews of forex trading software, and to exposing the scams which are part and parcel of the forex auto trading scene. This author maintains such a website, and while I test a number of forex robots myself, I also cross-reference to other reputable sites which have tested EA's that I have not tested.
